To arrive on time for your show, plan your schedule backwards.
For example, if you know call is at 6:30pm, start there. How long will it take you get to the venue? Let’s say 30 minutes, but add 15 in case traffic is bad. That’s 5:45pm. Loading your car takes 10 minutes; now you’re at 5:35pm. Continue in this way with all the other tasks you need to do, like packing, doing your hair and makeup, &c. Figure out the amount of time each one takes and subtract it from the time.
Factor in the little stuff too, which can change from day to day, like stopping for a coffee on the way, or that recent snow is going to impact finding a parking space.
Once you compile it all, you’ll have the time at which you need to begin your pre-show prep. Stick to the schedule and you’ll make your producer very happy as you walk in on time and ready to go.
