Dear Constant Reader,

This is it! Voting for the Golden Pasties ends tonight! It would mean so much to me to win one of those oversized pasties (made by Canova Studios), especially for the 20th anniversary of the festival.

I’m a finalist for the Dorian Gray Award, for the performer who looks younger now than when they started performing and the Producers Dream Award, for the performer who is never late and always sends their music on time (it’s true!).

Voting is super-easy, barely an inconvenience! You have until 6pm (eastern) tonight.

And then we wait until the ceremony on Sunday!

Exciting News

Dear Constant Reader,

I’m a finalist for two Golden Pasties!!! Thank you so much for your help getting me nominated. I had a terrible day yesterday, but it ended with this news, so at least I could go to sleep on a positive note.

Now I’m counting on you all to vote for me the Dorian Gray Award and the Producer’s Dream Award. I’ve got some really stiff competition!

We’re encouraged to make silly campaign promises. I haven’t come up with any yet (I’m working on it!) but I do promise you all a treat if I win one of those coveted giant pasties!

The Golden Pasties

Dear Constant Reader,

I believe I neglected to tell you that I had been selected to perform at The New York Burlesque Festival. I am incredibly excited! There’s a lot of competition for a relatively few slots and this year happens to be the 20th anniversary.

I’ll be performing Thursday night at The Bell House (where I’ve performed at previous NYBFs) with Whole Lotta Mina, which you may have seen if you were at the most recent Expo or if you’re one of my Patrons.

This all means I am eligible for a Golden Pastie award! Nominations are open until September 11 and then voting starts. I’ve decided to concentrate my efforts on being nominated for The Producers Dream Award (for the performer who is never late and always sends their music on time) and for The Dorian Gray Award (for the performer who looks younger now than when they started performing) (maybe not younger, but enough people have said I look much the same as when I started this burlesque stuff over a decade and a half ago).

So, I am asking you, Dear Reader, to please nominate me in those two categories. If I am fortunate enough to be a finalist, you will surely know. I have never won a burlesque award and despite the silliness, a Golden Pastie would mean a lot to me.

Signal Boosting

The Boston Babydolls have been nominated for Best Theatre Group by The Boston A-List. We’re delighted but we’d be even more so if we won (and you know how Brigitte feels about winning!). Please vote for us!

While I’ve got you in a generous mood, I’d like to mention The Wages of Sin, my favorite band for punk rock sea shanties & Appalachian death polka. I’m not kidding. The Wages are putting out a new album for the first time since, well, I went to the release party during the very first BurlyCon, so let’s just say that it’s been a while. Because they’re all old-fashioned and cool, they want to put their album out on vinyl (as well at the usual CD & download) and they’ve got a Kickstarter campaign to fund it. Check it out!

Dear Constant Reader,

I know so many of you wanted me to make the Leading Lady Gown for my little Dress Me contest, but after really looking over the pattern (I didn’t actually have it in my hot little hands when I so blithely included it), it wants a lot of time, care, and potentially much cursing and stuffing it out of sight for a while while I sulk in frustration.

So, I’m taking it out of this contest. Never fear, I will make it at some point in the future, but when I’m good and ready.

I got a lot of responses on the first day of my Dress Me contest.

So far the results are:
Leading Lady Gown: 6

I put up this poll before my 1930’s patterns actually arrived and, despite its commanding lead, I might pull the Leading Lady Gown out of the competition. Now that I’ve actually looked it over, it’s going to be a challenge and I want to take my time and a lot of care with it. It might not be the best option for this particular project, where I want to be giving you frequent updates.

Dress Me Again

Dear Constant Reader,

Last year I ran a little contest where you, my Constant Reader, picked which dress I should make from my vast collection of unused patterns and I would blog about it.

The winner was Folkwear Fifties Fit & Flair. Unfortunately, it was not so successful… Live, learn, and make muslins first.

But I’m willing to try again!
